88Bikes Villages 2011

Launched in Summer 2010, 88bikes Villages is giving over 1000 bikes to children living in some of the most remote and isolated corners of the world. We endowed 200 bikes to children living in rural Mozambique. Once completely isolated, these kids can now ride the 15 mile journey to our partner NGO's center for orphans and vulnerable children in the village of Sena. In Mongolia, we endowed 200 bikes to orphans living at two isolated schools. We endowed 300 bikes to a township in South Africa, a veritable village amidst the city of Port Elizabeth and 10 bicycles to girls rescued from sexual slavery in Bolivia. In September 2011 we endowed 51 bikes to Navajo kids living in the remote village of Montezuma Creek on the Navajo Nation and we partnered with DesignBuildBluff to build a mobile, sustainable bikeshop to support rides and clinics. During the next few months, we'll wrap up our Villages project with large endowments in Nepal and a second, 300 bike endowment in Mozambique. By spring 2011, the total number of bikes endowed for Villages will be approximately 1300. And our volunteers will, of course, continue to visit these sites for years to come. Bikes endowed in these rural locations transform kids' lives, allowing them to get to school, get to the market, play their friends and most important, have fun!
